Standard Specification for Precipitation Hardening Cobalt-Containing Alloys Rod, Bar, Forgings, and Forging Stock for High-Temperature Service

PUBLISH DATE 2025
PAGES 4
ASTM B639-25

This specification covers hot- and cold-worked precipitation hardenable cobalt-containing alloys (UNS R30155 and UNS R30816) rod, bar, forgings, and forging stock for high temperature service.

The material shall conform to the required chemical composition for carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, columbium, tantalum, iron, cobalt, and nitrogen.

The materials shall conform to the required tensile and hardness properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and Brinell hardness. The alloys shall also conform to the required stress-rupture properties.

Dimensions such as diameter, thickness, or width, out-of-round, corners, cut lengths, and straightness for cold-worked and hot-worked rod and bar shall be measured.

1.1 This specification covers hot- and cold-worked precipitation hardenable cobalt-containing alloys (UNS R30155 and UNS R30816)2 rod, bar, forgings, and forging stock for high-temperature service.

1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.

1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to become familiar with all hazards including those identified in the appropriate Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product/material as provided by the manufacturer, to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices, and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
