1.1 This practice covers procedures for obtaining a sample of noncryogenic aerospace propellant.

Two procedures are covered as follows:

  • Procedure 1—Closed System (Section 7), and
  • Procedure 2—Open-End Procedure (Section 8).

1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For hazard statements see Sections 5 and 6.

1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

4.1 This practice provides for the safe collection of propellants and other hazardous aerospace fluids so that they can be tested and evaluated. The evaluation will generally include tests for contamination and this practice outlines steps that will reduce the chances of gathering contaminants during the collection process.

4.2 This practice should not be performed without specific instructions about the type and usage of personal protective equipment and clean up procedures necessary for the safe handling of the sampled material. Sampling to determine material cleanliness should be performed in duplicate during a single operation as a best practice.
