Specification for evaluating particulate contamination of hydraulic fluids -- Methods of bottling fluid samples

PUBLISH DATE 1978
BSI BS 5540-3:1978

Procedures are described for obtaining bottle samples of hydraulic fluid from fluid power systems and containers for subsequent processing and evaluation by approved method.

Two preferred methods are described as follows.

  1. Bottle sampling from operating systems via sampling valves (dynamic source).
  2. Bottle sampling from static sources, i.e. containers which can be agitated.

A further, non-preferred, method is described for bottle sampling from reservoirs in functional systems which have no sampling valve.

Two preferred methods.
