Requirements for payphones for networks other than the ISDN

PUBLISH DATE 2001
PAGES 20
BSI BS 7983:2001

This British Standard specifies requirements for payphone apparatus:

  1. for connection to analogue PSTN lines (or equivalent interfaces provided behind a PABX);
  2. for connection to a cellular radio network; or
  3. that forms part of a public network (for example, public call boxes).

This British Standard is also applicable to any discrete payphone facility provided by serially-connected apparatus that supplies a connection by means of a socket conforming to BS 6312-2.

This standard is intended for use by payphone manufacturers, suppliers and service providers.

Requirements for network access or speech performance are outside the scope of this standard. This standard does also not apply to payphones for connection to the ISDN.

NOTE Requirements for payphones for connection to the ISDN are given in I-ETS 300 400.
