PUBLISH DATE 1995
BSI BS 8220-2:1995

This part of BS 8220 contains guidance on security measures aimed at forestalling both organized and opportunist crime on the premises of offices and shops.

section 1 deals with ways that crimes are committed, the consequences of crime, risk assessment, security planning; and with fire, safety and health and insurers’ requirements in so far as they relate to security.

Sections 2, 3 and 4 are concerned respectively with management, offices and shops being planned and designed and the adaptation of existing buildings.

The subsequent sections are concerned with windows, locks, doors, shutters, grilles, collapsible gates, glazing, roofs and other possible access points, lighting, intruder alarm systems, surveillance systems, access control, merchandise protection, cash handling and cash offices, strongrooms, safes, computer centres and the duties of security staff.

A comprehensive series of questions in the annexes affords a means of checking the adequacy of existing or proposed security measures.

NOTE The subjects of bombs, bomb threats and armed criminals are not covered in this guide. Advice on these matters should be obtained from the Police.
