PUBLISH DATE 1976
PAGES 38
BSI CP 1003-1:1964

This code describes methods of dealing with the risk of fire or explosion in explosive atmospheres by the choice, installation and maintenance of flameproof and intrinsically-safe equipment. The coalmining industry is not covered by this code.

The types of hazard are fully described, and advice given on the risks from high temperatures.

Guidance is also given on:

  • Types of wiring
  • Automatic electrical protection
  • Portable electrical apparatus

Intrinsically-safe circuits and apparatus are described and classified, with information on their use.

Full advice is given on the practical side of construction, including earthing, and wiring in both conduit and metal-sheathed cables.

Testing and inspection - both electrical and mechanical - are also fully covered.
