This recommended practice specifies the requirements for 1.5 kV to 35 kV medium-voltage dc (MVDC) transformers (DCTs), including functional, performance, and test requirements. This recommended practice also provides the definitions, topology and configuration, primary equipment, control and protection requirements, interface specifications, auxiliary system requirements, and application scenarios for medium voltage transformers in distribution systems.
The purpose of this recommended practice is to provide technical specifications for medium voltage (MV) (1.5 kV to 35 kV) DCT applications. Utilities, integrators, and other associated entities can specify application conditions and the topological structure of DCTs and define the requirements for function, performance, primary equipment, control and protection, and testing of DCTs in MVDC power systems. This recommended practice aims to provide the knowledge base, experience and recommended use cases for greater utilization of medium voltage DCTs in modern power distribution networks.
