IEEE Standard for Mobile Radiation Monitors Used for Homeland Security

PUBLISH DATE 2021

IEEE N42.43-2021
New IEEE Standard - Active. The operational and performance requirements for mobile radiation monitors (MRMs) used in homeland security applications are specified in this standard. MRMs may be operated while in motion or while in a fixed location.
This standard specifies the performance requirements and tests for mobile radiation monitors (MRMs) that detect and/or identify radionuclides, and when provided, indicate the presence of neutron radiation. MRMs are typically in operation on a platform, such as a vehicle or trailer, that is in motion but that can also be used while stationary. This standard does not address radiation monitors mounted on boats or aerial platforms.
This standard specifies the operational and performance requirements for MRMs used in homeland security applications. Operational requirements established by this standard include radiation detection and radionuclide identification, and those requirements associated with the expected electrical, mechanical, and environmental conditions while in use. The tests described in this standard provide a means to help ensure that an MRM meets the requirements stated.
