MSS SP-43-2026 is the latest edition of the standard practice for Wrought and Fabricated Butt-Welding Fittings for Low Pressure, Corrosion Resistant Applications.

Published by the Manufacturers Standardization Society (MSS), this standard is specifically designed for thin-wall stainless steel piping systems where corrosion resistance and hygiene are prioritized over high-pressure capacity.

Key Scope and Specifications

  • Target Materials: Primarily austenitic stainless steels (e.g., 304/304L, 316/316L, 317, 321, 347) and nickel alloys.
  • Wall Thickness: Covers fittings made for use with Schedule 5S and Schedule 10S pipe. It also includes short-pattern stub ends suitable for Schedule 40S.
  • Pressure Rating: These fittings are not pressure rated in the same way as heavy-duty fittings. Instead, they must be capable of withstanding 30% of the allowable pressure rating of the matching straight pipe.
  • Dimensions: While it maintains the same center-to-end dimensions as ASME B16.9 for compatibility, it allows for lighter construction to save weight and cost.
