Battery electric vehicle (BEV) maintenance and storage facility code
This is the first edition of CSA B401.4, Battery electric vehicle (BEV) maintenance and storage facility code . CSA Group acknowledges that the development of this Code was made possible, in part, by the financial support of Natural Resources Canada. This Code was prepared by the Subcommittee on Battery Electric Vehicle Maintenance and Storage Facility Code, under the jurisdiction of the Technical Committee on Battery Electric Vehicle Transportation and the Strategic Steering Committee on Transportation, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Code has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.

The purpose of this Code is to provide reasonable means to manage the risks associated with the maintenance, repair, and storage of battery electric and hybrid vehicles. Note: See Annex G for explanatory material.
This Code applies to those portions of battery electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance, depot, and support facilities where vehicles are charged, stored, maintained, and repaired, and to their ancillary areas and systems. If a vehicle has multiple fuels and one of the fuels is compressed hydrogen gas, the requirements of CSA B401.3 will apply. The scope of this Code includes but is not limited to the design, construction, and operation of battery electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance, depot, and support facilities. Elements of electric shock/arc flash control, fire detection and suppression, deflagration, and emergency response and planning are also included, as well as guidance on underground and multi-level storage and charging facilities. Where existing standards cover aspects addressed by this Code (e.g., fire suppression and battery storage/handling), the Code references those works.
This Code contains information on private parking structures where battery electric and hybrid vehicles are parked or stored, including ancillary areas and systems. Note: See Annex C.
For purposes of this Code, private parking structures have the same requirements as minor repair areas.
